I found the classes I need for the CrawlCache site.
May 31, 2008 on 4:06 pm | In Insider Info, Programming | No CommentsToday, I went and found the classes I need for some of the major coding of CrawlCache’s website. The classes I found I needed for the spider and for when people buy advertising credits via PayPal. It should help reduce the amount of time I have to take in order to code the pages and scripts I need.
I may go grab an AJAX script, so that when people click the login link, a box will appear, asking for their username and password. At first, I’ll only let administrators to register, but when the site is ready for customers, I’ll let anyone register by adding a link to a registration page. Who knows maybe in the future I’ll add forums and other stuff that use membership (arcades come to my mind as well
).
Maybe down the future, I will make this script available for purchase through Joffee Publishing Inc.’s store.
It won’t go cheap, though!
I will have put too much effort into it for that!
Some more work done on CrawlCache.
May 30, 2008 on 6:08 pm | In Programming | No CommentsWell, I got done another bit today of CrawlCache’s site. Today, I added some navigation and a page (and a script) to add sites to a list to be crawled on the database. It was fun to learn, and fun to do. If you want to get a head start, why not add your site today to the list?
I’m still reading my books (I still haven’t finished that series I started yesterday!), and when I have time, I rest or play a game. My favorite is still Making History 2, but I may install Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, so that I will have plenty of experience before I either move into town and get DSL or get satellite.
I’m hoping that by doing CrawlCache one piece at a time I won’t get bored or tired of it quickly. Next on my list of stuff to code is the spider, followed by the search engine, followed by the administration area, and then the area where people can buy advertisements, and finally the registration page.
I’ve been enjoying some good reading lately.
May 29, 2008 on 3:54 pm | In Personal | No CommentsI’ve been enjoying some good reading lately. A couple of days ago I finished all of the books in the Tales of Redwall series that our public library had. I’m now reading S. M. Stirling’s books about what happens when the island of Nantucket gets sent back to 1250 BC. It’s quite a good read, and I always enjoy it no matter how many times I read it.
Maybe later on today, I’ll start work on the spider for the CrawlCache website. That should be fun in itself. If I get it to work, I may add a page to the website.
Using my new drawing pad is harder than it looks, but I’m putting it down to a lack of practice.
I’m sure I’ll improve as I use it more. ![]()
Not feeling 100% lately.
May 28, 2008 on 7:43 pm | In Personal | No CommentsI’ve not been feeling 100% lately, and today I found out why. Apparently, the membrane around my lungs is inflamed, so I’m on antibiotics for a week. It’s in pill-form, which I can’t swallow, so I’ll have to crush them up.
Not at all good, plus they make me more sensitive to sunlight while I’m on them. That’s also not good, because the weather is gorgeous and I was planning on doing so bike-riding. Looks like i’ll have to put it off for a week.
Oh, I also got a note saying I can’t do any lifting at work, which should help keep the pain down. ![]()
I also got my writing tablet from NCIX today. It doesn’t weigh that much, and it works really good.
I can’t wait to make some drawings with it!
I started work on CrawlCache’s site today.
May 27, 2008 on 8:11 pm | In Programming | No CommentsI started work today on CrawlCache’s website, when it hit me: I don’t know much (if any) PHP. So I just decided to update the boring coming soon page to something more spiffy. Here’s what it looks like after today’s work: Continue reading I started work on CrawlCache’s site today….
I’m gonna code CrawlCache, but I need some advice first.
May 27, 2008 on 12:24 am | In Programming | No CommentsTomorrow, I’m going to start coding CrawlCache, but I need some advice before I can do this. If you can answer any of the questions that follow, please answer via comment. (Be sure to register if you want to post a comment though.)
First, I need some advice regarding how many keywords I should get the spider to grab from each website. Is there a certain number I should grab? If not, what is the number I should code in?
Second, what is the best method to secure the administration and user areas?
Third, how should I sort the results? If via some sort of page ranking system, what system should I use? If via algorithm, which one should I use and how should I implement it?
Finally, how should I charge for advertising? Should I charge via credits with more credits for more popular keywords, or some other method?
Thanks for your answers in advance. CrawlCache will be more user-friendly because of your input!
My Youth for Christ 2008 experience!
May 26, 2008 on 12:32 am | In Personal | 1 CommentI’m finally home from Youth for Christ 2008, and let me say it was an experience I am glad I had!
From the stuff I learned to the music I sang and listened to, it enriched my life. I wouldn’t have traded the last 2 ½ days for anything else in the world! ![]()
When we got there Friday night around 6 pm and into the arena by 6:30, it started with a bang literally at 8 pm! They set off fireworks inside Rexall Place to start Youth for Christ 2008. The theme of this year’s event was Passion, and was the first night good evidence of it. Even before the official kick-off, people were chanting stuff like the following:
We love Jesus, yes we do!
We love Jesus, how about you?
I can’t wait for tomorrow!
May 22, 2008 on 12:24 pm | In Personal | No CommentsI can not wait for tomorrow, cause tomorrow afternoon I leave with my church’s Youth Group to go to Youth for Christ 2008. From what I’ve heard, it should be a blast, and a good getaway from daily life around here. As I won’t have any web access during this time, I won’t be able to post on my blog or view any of the forums I visit.
Today, I think I’m going to get started on a coding project of mine. I’m going to try and code a program that plays a different musical note for each different keyboard key that I press. If I can code it, I will be able to play my own music on my computer. ![]()
Last night I watched Cars on DVD. It was a great movie to watch, and I would recommend it for anyone. It also taught me something: Sometimes, it’s better to slow down and enjoy life than to speed through it.
Canada’s Minister of Industry Plans to Make Parliament Pass US Style Digital Media Act!
May 21, 2008 on 7:48 pm | In Plans | 2 CommentsAccording to Boing Boing, Prentice plans to make parliament pass US Style Digital Copyright laws. Here’s what the original article had to say:
Word on the street is that Canadian Industry Minister Jim Prentice is about to try to shove the Canadian version of the US’s failed Digital Millennium Copyright Act through Parliament very soon, and very fast. He made plans to do this before, and the overwhelming public outcry caused him to shelve them, but now he figures we’re all distracted and we’ll let him get away with it (especially since he’s made a couple of cosmetic changes to the bill that he’ll use to show how much he really, really cares about us poor Canadians, rather than the US government and entertainment companies who are giving him marching orders).
The Tories promised that they wouldn’t do any more treaty-law without public consultation, but Prentice stalwartly refuses to have any public consultation on his plans, despite outcry from industry (he’s the Minister of Industry, remember?), artists’ groups, library groups, educator groups, and public interest groups. He just keeps on ploughing ahead with his half-baked plan to follow the US off the same stupid copyright cliff it leapt off of in 1998 when it passed the DMCA, a law which has done nothing to reduce infringement, but which has screwed up libraries, competition, and education, and has led to lawsuits against tens of thousands of ordinary citizens.
So it looks like we’re going to have to do it again: we’re going to have to write to Prentice, rally at his office, phone him and let him know that we’re still watching and still paying attention, and that we still demand that he listen to the public — the way his party promised they would — before he brings down this law.
Please write to your MP, the PM, and Minister Prentice to tell them that you do not want US Style DRM laws to be put on the books here!
Finished transferring stuff to WordPress
May 20, 2008 on 8:57 pm | In Asides | No CommentsToday, I finished transferring stuff to WordPress. I also added a few new stuff. Not everything is the same though, as there is only 1 sidebar, and no widgets on the top or bottom.
However, I think WordPress beats Haze as a blogging solution, don’t you? ![]()
Blog switched back to WordPress.
May 19, 2008 on 11:48 pm | In Site News | No CommentsI went and switched the blog back to WordPress, cause it is way ahead of Haze when it comes to blogging features. Please register again if you were a member before.
