What I’ve Discovered Aoout Myself
Over the last few days, I have learned some stuff about myself, and I thought I’d share my discoveries here. These things will help determine if I like a job, or can’t stand it for long. I partially learned this at my appointment with my job councilor the other day, and the other stuff I’ve known about myself for a while.
I have the following values: It’s important to me to have a steady job with a boss who is fair and someone that I can get along with. However, I prefer to work at my own pace. I prefer to work where I feel comfortable and safe. I prefer to do a job well, and I like to finish difficult tasks, and I want to show my best abilities. It’s important to me to have good health and have a life away from work as well. To me, family relationships are also important. (I’ve learned this one really well over the course of my life so far!
)
I have the following traits: I finish tasks I start, and I need to see a completed job at the end of the day. I’m different from other people, and I tend to work slow. I need a lot of time by myself, am ambitious, and prefer working by myself, but like working with others some of the time. I work to live, and work is not the center of my life. I sometimes think things through before making a decision (should have done this 2 days ago…), and am sometimes a leader.
I have the following skills: I can play a sport, and I feel I can make good decisions (apparently not all of the time). I can stay calm in an emergency, and I can entertain people. I also can install computer software, and do basic repairs.
I have the following interests:
- listening to music
- using the computer
- going on the the internet
- cooking
- singing and acting (but don’t ask me to dance)
- serving people
- photography
- being my boss
- making people laugh (I know a few good jokes!
) - working with numbers
- selling things
These are my talents, interests, skills, and values. A job has to appeal to most of these, or I won’t like a job very much. I think it explains why I liked my former job at McDonald’s so much.
