Some shifts are not worth working!

With the price of gas at $1.30/liter here and living out in the country, some shifts are not worth working. My parents refuse to take me in for short 4 hour shifts, so I have to take taxi rides for them. Even if I get a ride early in the morning, I still lose 4 or more hours of sleep.

A taxi ride from my place to town costs me $25 right now. I am currently earning $10.40/hour at my job. With those two things firmly in mind, let me show you the calculations if I have to take two taxi rides for a 4 hour shift:

4 hours of work at $10.40/hour = $41.60
Deductions off my paycheck     =-  0.72
                                 -------
Total earned from 4 hours        $40.88
Two taxi rides at $25/each     =- 50.00
                                --------
Net earned/lost                 - $9.12

Now for the same calculations for an 8 hour shift and no taxi rides:

8 hours of work at $10.40/hour = $83.20
Deductions off my paycheck     =-  1.44
                               ---------
Net earned from 8 hours          $81.76

As you can clearly see, a four hour shift is not worth working as it just loses me money. I would like to thank CanaTax for their online payroll tax calculator.

Today was interesting at work.

Today was the Grand Opening of the McDonalds in Camrose, Alberta, where I work. I managed to see Ronald McDonald, Grimace, Hamburgler, and Birdy(the bird character) before I left. Also, 98.1 CAM-FM started broadcasting from outside the main door at 1pm. It was nice to be a part of, even if it was a busy morning! Also, the forty-nine cent hotcakes made for a cheap break!

I am so tempted to find a new job right now.

I am so tempted to find another job and put my two weeks in at McDonalds, it is not even funny! The schedule has had me working six days this week, and six days next week as well. It really ticks me off because I am going to be losing a lot of sleep next week, because my dad’s shifts and mine do not sync well, meaning I will have lots of being in town all day next week. It also means I will not be able to post as often here as I’d like. Continue reading I am so tempted to find a new job right now….

I really think I should start planning to move out…

I am starting to believe I had better start planning on moving out of my parents’ place and into my own. I know I should pay off my credit cards first, and I will. I think I will slow down my savings for a moped after that, and instead start saving to move into my own place. I know that if I don’t, sooner or later the tensions between my parents and I will explode, and I would like to try and avoid that situation. I think I will need to save between five and seven thousand dollars before I will have enough to move out.

Thinking about adding my resume here.

I’m thinking about adding my resume to this site and blog as a private page. Good for keeping bots from it, and grabbing my email address. Plus people would have to register in order to read it.

I also went and added a site to the Cool Sites that was not there before: World Play Online. I think it is the coolest gaming site out there, and it is a must check-out! Plus it has a messaging app that lets you send and receive files, and you don’t even have to install any software! It is totally cool, and free right now to join.

Crazy times at work…

It’s crazy times at work, as the shift I just work shows. I was scheduled to be done by 11:15 pm, but I did not get out until 5 minutes after midnight! Last night, I got out at 11:50 pm. All because the manager wants us to stock up and clean up the store perfectly before leaving! None of the other managers has made us do this much when they closed. I am so glad I only close twice next week!

The McDonalds thief has struck me again…

Once again, the thief at my workplace (where I’m just Crew), McDonald’s, has struck again. I don’t think I have posted about this before, and if I have and you have read this before, please forgive me in advance. The thief stole while the old store was still standing (and we were working in it) one cellphone and two iPods, one from me and one from another worker. Now at the new store, which has no lockers for the crew and security cameras, the thief stole my McDonald’s jacket and my new McDonald’s shirt, which had the new “Beef Up Your Summer” logo on it. I am not impressed at all at this! :@

Back to the grind…

Well, I’m back to daily grind of work. One day off a week just does not seem to be enough. I really am hoping that my company takes off soon! I mean with all the products and services it offers, something should sell! At least when my company can pay me a decent salary, I won’t have to take a ride into town in order to earn a paycheck!

I am also planning on going for Google’s new Lunar X prize. Twenty million dollars sure would help my company out big time! However, I have to land a rover on the moon first in order to get it.

Under a week until I get satellite internet!

It is finally under a week until I get satellite internet! I am so pleased to be finally getting it, and that the fact that my dad will be paying half the cost back to me for getting it! I think I will also be able to take a good swipe at my debt as well come Monday.

Today should be interesting…

Today should be interesting, as I will be in town by 10 am, and I do not work until 3pm. At least I will have plenty of time to get something to eat before work! I am planning on going to the post office and the library before I head to work.

I’ve decided to join PokerStars so I can play games of poker with my friends from HardwareLogic Forums. I may join it’s affiliate program as well, as it looks like a way to increase my monthly income passively. I’d better finish posting this, so I can get to bed, so I can be up by 8 am.

I spent most of today reading!

Well, I spent most of today reading. It was partially due to the fact that I got off early, but I did not mind all the reading time. I like reading books, especially anything in the “Chronicles of Valdemar” series by Mercedes Lackey. I have to admit, he is a very good reader. I wouldn’t mind making one of his trilogies into a series of movies one day.

I am tired of using System Restores!

I am tired of using System Restore to be able to access the internet from my computer! I have decided I need to get satellite internet ASAP. Until then, if my connectivity goes off-line again, I can access the net from work using my laptop I guess. It will probably mean that my blog posts will be less frequent, and that email will pile up in my inboxes. I guess that is just life.

It is good to laugh once in a while!

It is good to get a laugh once in a while, and the new joke blog of my friend Sean Chiarot, HaveALaugh, seems to fit the bill for me. It is packed with lots of jokes, so if you need a laugh, please check it out! Don’t forget to register to comment on the jokes!

One thing I have noticed is that I forgot to post the weekly rant on Friday. Oh well, makes the next one doubly important and doubly irratable!

I can use my connection again!

Well, I can use my connection again! After failing to do it via removal and re installation of the driver for the modem, a System Restore to the way the computer was on July 4th did the trick! It is so nice to able to surf the web from my own PC!
