How to send certain messages to the leaders.

October 13, 2008 on 7:37 pm | In Canadian Politics | No Comments

There are 2 messages we need to send to the leaders. One is for all of them, and the other is for Harper and the Conservatives only.

The citizens of the riding of Central Nova can send the message that you should only offer what you can deliver on by re-electing Peter MacKay as their Member of Parliament. Stephane Dion promised Elizabeth May that he would help get her elected here. Prove him wrong, and re-elect MacKay to represent you in Parliament.

The citizens of the riding of Edmonton-Sherwood Park can send a message to Stephen Harper and the Conservatives that Alberta is not 100% safe. They can do this by electing James Ford as their Member of Parliament. He is running as an Independent, but has Conservative values. He is the best one to send to Ottawa to wake up Harper and his Conservatives that Alberta’s 28 seats are not guaranteed Conservative at election time.

Remember to get out tomorrow and cast your ballot!

Why I will not likely ever vote…

Liberal:

  • I may not be old enough to remember the National Energy Program, but I’ve heard what it did to my home province of Alberta in the 1970’s. Who was in charge? Pierre Elliot Trudeau, a Liberal.
  • They will impose their “Green Shift” and halt Alberta’s economy.
  • When the Liberals were in power, they ignored Alberta and the rest of the West.

New Democratic Party:

  • Ideas that will clearly put Canada deeper into debt.
  • They want to tax businesses, when they clearly need the government’s help.
  • Also would put in a ecological plan that would ruin Alberta’s economy.

Green:

  • Clearly, I will never vote for them, as they care too much about the ecology.
  • They will never form a government, so why bother to vote for them?

Cleearly, I am stuck voting Conservative this election, and pretty much that way in elections to come, unless another party runs a candidate or I decide to run for another party. ;)

Canadians are to vote on October 14th.

Well, Stephen Harper has done it. He has gotten the Governor General to call an election for October 14, 2008, almost a year before when the law that was passed (unaminously!) said we were going to the polls. I think the Conservatives deserve the right to lead the next Parliament because of their record of keeping their promises most of the time. This is a reluctant vote though, because my choice will not be on the ballot. I will post more about my choice in the coming days. ;)

New rules proposed to protect anti-abortion doctors - CNN.com

Finally, a decent idea that should have been put in place a long time ago! I hope Canada follows their lead in this. If I was a doctor, I would be asking my MP to pass something like this in Canada to protect my right to object as well. ;)

What I would do if I became Prime Minister

August 13, 2008 on 12:56 pm | In Canadian Politics | No Comments

With all of the potential of an election this fall up here in Canada, I thought I would tell you what I would do if I was elected Prime Minister as head of a Canadian political party. I would try and do the following:

  1. Make a plan for paying off the national debt.
  2. Make government as small as practical, to help in the next plank of this potential platform.
  3. Reduce taxes to the average tax-payer.
  4. Ask respected scientists to see how valid global warming is, and if it is serious, ask both them and respected economists how to reduce Canada’s contribution to it, while keeping the economy good.
  5. This is a BIG maybe:Ask Canadians in a referendum how they feel towards Canada keeping the British monarch as our Head of State, and if they don’t want him/her as the head of state, what to put in his/her place.

If you have any ideas, feel free to register and post a comment, or contact me via the Contact Me page. ;)
